• Academic Background

I'm a Geography PhD student in the University of Iowa. My master's study was Geographic Information Science (GIScience) and Environmental modeling, specialized in modeling soil erosion. I was the lead programmer of the GeoWEPP for ArcGIS 10.x team in the LESAM Lab. I'm currently looking for a new research direction for my PhD dissertation.

Currently I'm interested in High Perfmance Computing (HPC). HPC is heavily needed in GIScience as the the size of data is growing rapidly, such as LiDAR data and social media data. Also, in the studies of human and environment dynamics, complex Agent-Based Modeling is a common and popular way to simulate interactions and system dynamics in the human-environment system, but interactions among large number of agents are highly computational intensive. HPC is brought into this field to leverage its computational intensity. For now, each HPC architectture is tighted-coupled with its data or modeling strategy. Generalizability is a challenging problem in this field.
