Coordinated Views for analyzing multivariate relationships

This map shows the county census data in New York State, and the bottom plot is a parallel coordinate plot showing all the values of each county's census attributes. Although legend is not shown in here, given a census attribute selected in the dropdown box, the corresponding value of a county can be shown on the top of the map when mouse is hovered over the county on the map. Generally, the darker the color is, the higher the value is.

From the map and bottom parallel coordinate plot, we can see the amount of children (age less than 18) is negatively correlated with the amount of elderlies (age over 65). This is probably because most children are with their parents and most parents are living in places where they could have more opportunities for their work, such as counties around New York City. Instead, elderlies are more likely to enjoy their rest lives and move to those places with nice environment, such as those counties along Erie Lake.

Also, for those places with relatively high percentage of children, the percentage of female are also likely high. This make senses as females in married couple household and single-parent household contribute to this.

Generally, the percentage of each minority population is generally correlated with the other two's. As minority put them into an implicit social-language disadvantage, they are more likely to go to those places where offers more opportunities for work and living.
